Andy Percival is a self-taught artist who works predominately in griffin oils on panels and canvas. His style is on the photo realistic side of oil painting. He’s spent most of his life living in Northamptonshire, which is his inspiration for many of his paintings; depicting the landscape and buildings of the area. His subjects include: seascapes, village scenes, winter snow scenes, lakes and streams. He works from his home studio in the village of Isham in the heart of Northamptonshire. As he says, “As long as I have the radio, coffee, painting materials and an inspiring subject, it’s a good day spent.”

Andy’s five step method and style is created by first getting the right reference photos of the subject and then preparing

the panel. Followed by sketching the main layout of the subject and then blocking in the mid-tones with acrylics. Finally then completing the painting using oils. Most paintings take him about three to four days to complete. For him it is complete relaxation and a far cry from his previous occupations in the armed forces and emergency services. Andy is a member of the Kettering & District Art Society.
